UCLA receivers versus the Tennessee defensive backs

August 26th, 2008, 11:00 am · Post a Comment · posted by Adam Maya, staff writer since 2006

It is strength versus strength. The Tennessee defensive backs are thought to be the strongest part of the defense. UCLA’s receivin core might be the best in the conference.

I asked Bruins receiver Marcus Everett if he thought UCLA had any possible advantage against a secondary that is expected to be one of the greatest in the school’s history. His answer:

“The Pac-10, we throw the ball,” Everett said. The SEC, they’re known for pounding the run. Our advantage will be we’re a little more agile, a little more athletic. Hopefully that outweighs the power and strength the SEC brings.”

I then asked Everett, one of just two senior receivers, which of his younger position mates he was looking forward to seeing. He started out by saying Dominique Johnson, but soon he named off just about every other receiver who figures to play this season. The Bruins are about seven deep in this area.
