Tailgating: Where the wild things are

November 8th, 2008, 2:33 pm · Post a Comment · posted by MARK SAXON, OCREGISTER.COM

If you’re looking for action before games, the lawn south of the Rose Bowl is the place to be. Note: It may not be the spot to set up if you’re bringing small children.

They pack the cars in tight and people unfurl canvas tarps and set up lawn chairs. From there, it pretty much turns into a carnival. A lot of the students hang out there before games, so it can be a bit like a fraternity or sorority party in spots.

I didn’t see a lot of Oregon State orange-and-black in the area.

Wading through cars, I dodged stumbling students celebrating their victories in drinking games and foam footballs being chucked all over the place. I just hope there are enough bottles of water and designated drivers to go around.
