UCLA Football: Updates from practice

November 19th, 2008, 6:56 pm · Post a Comment · posted by MARK SAXON, OCREGISTER.COM

* Coach Rick Neuheisel pitted the scout teams against one another at the end of Wednesday’s practice. Freshmen tailbacks Johnathan Franklin and Milton Knox each broke off impressive runs. The coaches are using the bye week to get a better sense of which freshmen will fill key roles next season.
“We saw some good individual efforts. We’ll wait and see the film to evaluate it all,” Neuheisel said. …

* The team finally got a diagnosis of what ailed reserve defensive end Chinonso Anyanwu, who was hospitalized earlier this month with abdominal pain. Anyanwu has Crohn’s disease, a disorder of the digestive system.
Anyanwu was not at Wednesday’s practice so he could meet with doctors at Kaiser Permanente hospital. He may miss the remainder of this season.

* Coaches are taking a look at tackle Micah Kia at left guard in place of injured Darius Savage.
