When the first of the month rolled around UCLA’s commitment list for next winter was a party of none. Four-star receiver Paul Richardson, the Bruins’ first (and for a long time only) prospect claiming true blue, had just canceled his RSVP to Westwood.
Feb. 3, 2010 — a.k.a. Signing Day — couldn’t come slow enough. UCLA has rebounded, however, receiving four commitments in the past three weeks. Here’s a breakdown of this month:
I do…
- June 7: UCLA was the only Pac-10 team without a single commit until landing Julious Moore, a three-star defensive tackle from Bellevue, Wash.
- June 17: Three-star safety Tevin McDonald, whose father played at USC and brother arrives at USC this fall, opts for blue over cardinal .
- June 23: The Bruins receive verbals from three-star quarterback Brett Nottingham and three-star defensive lineman Wesley Flowers.
In progress…
- Three-star receiver Anthony Jefferson of Cathedral High includes UCLA in his top five, along with USC, Cal, Oregon and Oklahoma.
- Three-star cornerback Cullen Christian ranks UCLA No. 3 among schools he’s considering.
- Servite High DT Kirifi Taula said UCLA is his favorite and he would likely commit once he receives an offer. The Bruins already offered Tesoro High OL Silvarius Ajawara, who has just recently gotten more attention but said he’s always loved UCLA.
And finally…
- Several of the top recruits in the nation (Rivals.com’s top 100, Scout.com’s top 100) list UCLA as a possible destination, including: OT Seantrell Henderson (Scout and Rivals’ No. 1 overall player), DE Ronald Powell (No. 12, Rivals), RB Malcolm Jones (No. 15, Scout), WR Robert Woods (No. 17, Rivals), S Sean Parker (No. 19, Scout) and RB Anthony Barr (No. 20, Rivals).
Here’s a video of Nottingham, whom ESPN dubbed the “top performer” at the Elite 11 camp at UNLV this past weekend:

Lots of three star commits. Three stars is not going to get the job done.
Could you imagine an O-line with Xavier Sua Filo, Jeff Baca, Kai Maivaia (sp?), Stan Hasiak, and Seantrell Henderson in 2-3 years? What a change from last season eh? That would a recipe for one of the top O-lines in the country.
Dude stars mean nothing! look at the NFL draft more 2 and 3 star players were taken in the first and second rounds. Go to show what you know about recruiting.
