October is over for UCLA. Its bowl chances might have gone with it. The Bruins dropped their fifth consecutive game, 26-19, against Oregon State on Saturday.

Oregon State’s James Rodgers rushed for a 17-yard touchdown in the final minute, this after UCLA scored two touchdowns (and converted two 2-point conversions) in the fourth quarter to tie the game, 19-19.

Quarterback Kevin Prince nearly brought UCLA back once again, driving the Bruins to the Oregon State 15-yard line where they ran out of time. UCLA (3-5, 0-5) is in ninth place in the Pac-10 and has not won since Sept. 19th.

Prince finished 22 of 34 for 323 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Trailing 16-0 at halftime, the UCLA comeback began midway through the fourth quarter when Prince connected with Nelson Rosario for a 58-yard touchdown. Prince threw a seven-yard touchdown to Taylor Embree with 2:06 left in the fourth to even the score.

Oregon State, which had been limited to field goals throughout the contest, responded with a 70-yard touchdown drive in just over a minute of game time.

True freshman quarterback Richard Brehaut played one series in the second half for the Bruins. He did not throw a pass and was sacked once. Rosario had six receptions for 152 yards. Johnathan Franklin led the team in rushing with 37 yards on 13 carries.

Beavers tailback Jacquizz Rodgers had 112 yards rushing, 92 yards receiving, and also passed for a touchdown. James Rodgers had 10 receptions for 106 yards. Justin Kahut made four field goals.

I have been critical of UCLA’s defensive coordinator’s schemes all season. Designed to fail. I have also been critical of their special teams coach approach, Austin, Austin, Austin. Did anyone take note that Austin’s biggest return was to the30 yard line? Did anyone take note, that on UCLA’s last drive with less than 30 seconds left, a pass was thrown to Austin, who has no accleration and was brought down by a LB instead of a huge gain that was there with two blockers out in front. If Coach Bullough and coach Ganz gradeout the rest of the season, like they have so far, their replacements should be inevitable. Another game that was winnable and in my opinion, lay at the feet of these two coaches.
