Once again the UCLA football team is caught up in the world wide web of drama. I asked Coach Rick Neuheisel about the critical comments posted on the Facebook page of Brian Theriot — the father of seldom-used reserve fullback Trevor Theriot — which lash out at Neuheisel, offensive coordinator Norm Chow, running backs coach Wayne Moses and the football program.
Below is his response:
“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion,” Neuheisel said. “That’s just a part of the deal. It’s not uncommon for people to be frustrated when their loved ones aren’t getting the kind of playing time that they’d hope for, especially when things aren’t going well because its easy to say, How could we do any worse?
“All we do is play the guys who are deserving of playing time based on what we see on the practice field. There’s absolutely zero favoritism. Our coaches have too much at stake to be playing favorites. That’s not how we do it.”
Less than two weeks ago freshman receiver Randall Carroll criticized Chow and the team’s recent play on Twitter. Neuheisel said he has addressed his players about its use of such sites.
“Hopefully, we’ll learn from past mistakes and go forward,” Neuheisel said. “Technology is what it is and it’s here to stay.”

Nice response from Rick …
If Mr Theriot thinks his kids deserves more playing time, then he needs be a coach so he can control how many snaps his kid gets. I find it interesting that Neuheisel says kids play on how they do in practice…hmmm, maybe kid Theriot is a slacker? maybe he finally has to work to get plays and doesnt like it? Or…here it comes….MAYBE HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE AN EVERY DOWN RUNNING BACK… These two need to get over themselves and the kid need to show up to play…
Wow. I really feel for Mr Therlot’s son. I’m sure his playing days at UCLA are done. He needs to be exploring his transfer options now. I’m sure like most programs, all involved are considered family, coaches, players, parents. For one to be so criticle outside of the house is not acceptable. Unfortunately it is his son who will pay the price.
The kid is far from a slacker. Phenomenal work ethic, whether he likes it or not. Dad just needs to put down the bottle and let things play out. Sometimes others are just better and you must humbly accept it. I think they call it life.
Anyhow, think Chow said it best ” i don’t know, iv’e never had a q.b. this young start for me before”. That quote say’s it all. If prior suffering under previous regimes hadn’t preceded the Neuheisle/Chow staff, A more patient demeanor would persist. U.C.L.A. fans were sick of being sick and tired prior to R.N. / N.C.
Magilla knows
Maya, get this junk off the blog. This isn’t rumor central or TMZ. Does this mean you’re going to start linking to disgruntled fans Facebook pages? Online fan forums? Can we just stick to real news, please?
Look–Neuheisel is an awful coach. It is impossible to name a school where he left the team in better shape than he found it. Expect sanctions at some point.
Anyone who thinks this is a “rumor” and doesn’t deserve to be reported is off-base. This isn’t a fan ripping the UCLA coaches. This is a player’s father. Huge, huge difference.
Jon-
You seem to be abnormally obsessed with the past indiscretions of Coach Neuheisel, who has admitted repeatedly that he was wrong for doing what he did in Colorado, however, you allege that he cheated in Washington, also. Everyone knows that he was wrongly terminated there (by an ex-USC employee) and his $3.5 Million settlement proves that. How about just giving up on your posts that disparage UCLA coaches. You would be better served to worry about the “less than clean” reputation of SC which, from the sound of your post is where your from. Oh, I get it. You need to bash someone other than your coach’es or team for their less than stellar game against OU. As in OUch!!!!!!
Wow brian, a whole new level. How embarrassing. Anyone who thinks that this shouldn’t be on OCR is gravely mistaken because it is not a single incident and nobody hacked his facebook. He has ruined various UCLA forums for years now with his ridiculous claims about Theriot’s ability, at one point saying how Theriot should be starting at wide receiver just to get him on the field.
Perhaps now we won’t have to hear it all the time. Thanks Adam.
Anyone who has lived in Newport beach for a certain amount of time knows all about Brian Theriot’s reputation. I could tell you all sorts of crazy stories about the guy. The fact of the matter is if it came from any other parent you might be able to take it seriously. But from Brian Theriot, No!
This is how important and sought after a UCLA education is people. As you can see here with Adam Mayo’s constant attempts to belittle anything Bruin, a rejection letter from UCLA still stings many years after graduating from usc and working for a community newspaper. I guess someone didn’t make good use of the trojan alumni network we all hear so much about?
Back when sports journalism used to be practiced, reporters would talk to people and get these things called “quotes” from them and not copy material from a social media page. Sad state of affairs.
I’d be embarressed if my dad was whining like that. Theriot’s dad sounds like the dad of that usc receiver that transferred last year.
Theriot’s father left a message on “Bruingold.com” saying that his facebook was HACKED 3 times. He also asked the OCREGISTER to take off this garbage.
Why do you, Mr. Maya, not verify anything by just calling up Mr. Theriot and ask if everything stated is true?
What did they teach you in school? How did you get this job if you can’t follow the most basic of protocols?
usc homerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
This is so brian theriot
Good to see the Register has an ‘SC guy scouring the internet for anything anti-Bruin. That’s exactly what I want to read: false quotes from social networking sites. Nicely done Mr. Maya.
The only thing anti-bruin was the immaturity shown by a certain parent. Maybe some sympathy plays for Theriot now?
