UCLA football: Neuheisel uncensored

November 4th, 2009, 7:00 am · 1 Comment · posted by Adam Maya, staff writer since 2006

How many times did UCLA switch quarterbacks against Oregon State in the first half ? Twice.

How many points did the Bruins score in the first half? Zero.

Coach Rick Neuheisel’s response? “I’m committed to making sure Richard (Brehaut) gets a little time in each of the games.”

See what else he (and we) had to say about Brehaut, Kevin Prince and the future of the Bruins’ QB shuffle.

    Adam-
Sorry, but I don’t get your point. I support C.Neuheisel’s attempt to get some playing time for Brehuat and I don’t believe that decision will adversely affect future games, as it didn’t adversely affect the Oregon State game. The answer or solution to UCLA’s problems so far is obvious and it has nothing to do with playing one or two QB’s. It has to do with performance. Provided the OLine gives enough time, the Receivers make the catches and the coach’es make the right calls, either one of them has a great chance to be successful.
Unfortunately, we are both looking at the least harmful issues the Bruins are facing and you highlighted one of them. The Defensive playcalling. It won’t make much difference how much the offense improves if the defensive play calling doesn’t get better. Also, special teams, with Austin returning punts and kickoff’s is a loser. Gansz must get Knox in on punt returns and Carroll/Thigpen and Austin for kickoffs and use reverses and lateral throws across the field to start being effective. Coverage schemes are horrible. Love, last year, was in on almost every tackle and now he bearly shows up. Use him like he was being used as a “gunner”. He loves to hit and he’s fast.
