UCLA did not have to survive against Humboldt State the way it did against Concordia last week. It simply advanced.

The Bruins defeated Division II Humboldt State, 74-57, on Tuesday night at Pauley Pavilion, UCLA’s final scrimmage before next Monday’s season opener against Cal State Fullerton.

The Bruins jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes and never trailed. Guards Jerime Anderson and Michael Roll, both of whom missed the Concordia exhibition, brought stability to the UCLA backcourt.

Roll led the Bruins with 17 points and was one of four starters to reach double figures. Forward Drew Gordon posted his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as well as six steals and three blocks.

Freshman forward Tyler Honeycutt, who started in the first exhibition, did not play because of a stress reaction to his right tibia. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.
